Let's recap the last few days and then put a little more emphasis on the day we just said goodnight to, shall we?
On the 13th we got iPhones and got back to the world of Instagram!
This actually explains part of why I haven't been blogging. I check email and facebook on my phone so I don't sit down at my computer much anymore. It's great on one hand, but also lazy on the other... Anyway, daddy spent all day playing with his phone while you and I played in the house and outside. I wanted to play with my phone, too, but I knew that he had to work later so I took care of you until you went to sleep and then tried to figure out this futuristic distraction brick. Should we tell everyone to follow us on Instagram? I think so, too. Hey! Follow us on Instagram!
Then the 14th we drove downtown to take some notes back to work (I'm a transcriptionist) where you were very excited to play with the receptionist, Jenny, and the whole hoard of people that happened to be there doing computer and security repairs that day. You danced, wandered, played with the photo copier and were just an overall sweetheart. When you were brand new I didn't like passing you from person to person, especially when you were clearly just wanting your mama, and a lot of people told me that you weren't going to be social if I hoarded you. They were wrong! I kept you close and you have all sorts of confidence now. I think it's good to keep babies close to their mamas and up with adults, not just on the floor or in a swing. I hope that you wear your babies close someday, too.
And the 15th... you woke up ... and daddy was home! He was out the door early for school every day except Friday but then worked all day Friday so that you didn't get to see him at all. You were so excited to wake up and find him right next to you. I told you to go give him a kiss, but you decided to crawl over and smile an inch from his face until he woke up. He was pretty excited to see you, too! He had to work that night, but it was still so nice to get to spend the whole morning with him.
The 16th was daddy's second father's day. We made chocolate croissants (mama's go-to holiday breakfast) and then mama had a huge meltdown because you were being super fussy and I was tired and fussy, too. Poor daddy. He loves his girls, but with girls comes crazy and he's still learning how to deal with that. He had to work so we went and celebrated your grandpa and great grandpa at Neenee at Grampie's house. As per usual, you played, danced, sang and basically just charmed the socks off everyone! Since mama and buggie both love watermelon, I stripped you down and put you in the sink so you could go to town on a piece. How cute are you??
We got home the same time as daddy and we decided to go see Star Trek with the movie tickets he got from mama's parents. You generally sleep through movies, but it took a little effort to get you down because you were so curious and kept asking questions about everything on the screen! "ahh nah? daaaa nuh?" (which of course means something like "and that? that guy?") You're a perfect little date :)
Yesterday daddy was up early to go to school and you decided to wake up at the same time! 5 am. You jerk. Just kidding, but seriously... why did you wake up so early? You stood right up in bed and yelled "hi dad!" at your daddy while he was getting dressed across the room. Despite my begging and pleading you decided to stay awake, so we had some breakfast and played together while daddy was at school. We expected him to come home at noon, but he called when he got out of class to tell us that he was going golfing. We took that as a sign that we should go to the mall until he was done! You love dancing to the music in the stores:
Which brings us to today. Once again, daddy had to get up early for school and once again, you decided you should get up early, too! I checked the zoo's summer hours and found that they open at 7, so we gobbled down a bagel, filled up our water bottles and headed out for a morning of animal-visiting. You love the zoo and I do, too... but you love the birds. Not that I don't love birds, but there are so many animals that actually play and do funny things and you like the birds that just sit on branches and do nothing. Maybe tomorrow I'll dig out my Planet Earth dvd on birds of paradise! After the zoo we visited Neenee and grandpa and then grabbed sandwiches and cookies and headed home to see daddy... so we thought.
Instead, daddy was studying at Starbucks so we dropped off his sandwich and drove home to spend the afternoon together. I miss daddy. He is working and at school so much lately! It's so nice when we're able to all spend time together, but that doesn't happen too often anymore. The important thing is that he is working really hard to support us in the present and also to prepare himself to support us even better in the future. What a good daddy!
We also watched duck dynasty for the first time, which was really funny but left me talking in my normally-suppressed southern accent (I lived in West Virginia as a kid). You liked all the guys with beards, which is very normal for you (you little hipster, you!) and, of course, the birds.
Love you sweet buggie! Thanks for the incredible week and thank you for putting up with my laziness! I will work hard to better document our days together so that someday we can look back and remember them together.
love love love you,
mama
